As dermatologists, many of our patients ask us, “What do you do? Which skin cleanser do you use? What kind of moisturizers do you prefer? Do you never go out in the sun at all?”
Well of course we do! Most of us love to feel the warmth of the sun on our skin, as long as we know we’re protected from its harmful rays. If you’re proactive by using the right moisturizers and regularly visiting one of our dermatologists, you can reap many benefits, and freely enjoying the sun is only one.
My Morning Skin Care Routine
It’s not that I have to do everything the same way every day, but I wouldn’t dream of not completing my daily skin care routine. I begin it first thing in the morning after I wake up.
Here are the products I use and the steps I take:
1. Cetaphil Gentle Foaming Cleanser
I use this gentle foaming cleanser every morning to wash away oil without stripping my skin of its natural moisturizers. It is fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic, which are all very important aspects to my personal skin care routine.
2. skinbetter science Alto Defense Serum
I use this product on my entire face after washing with the above cleanser. It has 19 active antioxidants and helps improve the appearance of uneven tone and redness while shielding from oxidative stress.
3. skinbetter science Interfuse Treatment Cream (Eye)
I apply this specifically around my eyes to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, wrinkles, puffiness, and the dreaded under-eye darkness. It also locks in moisture.
4. CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion (SPF 30)/Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer (SPF 50)
Applying one of these products is a must for me, rain or shine. After helping improve my skin with the steps above, it is important to protect it with a sunscreen. The titanium dioxide in this product protects while absorbing quickly and leaving no residue. It is non-greasy, non-irritating, fragrance-free, and non-comedogenic.
My Evening Skin Care Routine
My daily cleansing and moisturizing routine resumes in the evening, usually just before bedtime.
1. skinbetter science Oxygen Infusion Wash (Face)
An affordable product, this daily wash with alpha-hydroxy acid exfoliates while removing makeup and oils. Applying and massaging this to a wet face with your fingertips and then removing it with warm water is a simple way to wash away the accumulation of oils from the day while being gentle.
2. skinbetter science Interfuse Treatment Cream (Eye)
I apply this again in the evening, as the periocular skin is an important area to protect and can be difficult to care for.
3. skinbetter science Interfuse AlphaRet Overnight Cream (Face)
Every skin care routine should have a retinol in it. This product provides incredible results without the irritation associated with many other retinoids and retinoid-based products. The retinoid, lactic acid, and antioxidants in the product frequently provide fantastic, quick results.
4. CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion
I apply this before bedtime as needed.
Now, everything above is only what I do. In your case, other products may provide greater results. The type of skin you have makes a big difference in the items you should use. Consult with one of our dermatologists or estheticians to determine which brands and treatments may work best for you.
